IAStructE – IIIT Hyderabad student’s chapter of Earthquake Engineering Research Centre, conducted an online Guest Lecture on the topic “Effect of Infill with Opening on Seismic Performance of RC Frame Buildings” on 12th October 2022. Dr. Putul Haldar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, IIT Ropar was the keynote speaker for the event. She enlightened the audience on the importance of analytical modelling for a realistic assessment of response quantities of RC frame buildings followed by modelling techniques. The important parameters of RC frame building affecting the seismic performance including the modelling of infills were also discussed. Further, the extent of influence of various parameters on seismic performance assessment of un-reinforced masonry-infilled RC frame buildings was also highlighted with a case study. Finally, the audience was made aware of the critical issues and their solutions related to the realistic modelling of infilled RC framed buildings. It was attended by over 100 participants of various backgrounds including structural engineers, research scholars, M. Tech. students, and faculties.

The lecture concluded with a fruitful discussion between the participants and Dr. Haldar. The programme was hosted by Ms. Pooja Gaulkar (executive committee member) and a vote of thanks has been proposed by Ms. Lakshmi Supriya (Secretary) of the student’s chapter by thanking the speaker, guests, and all the participants.
