Hands-On-Training Session on “Understanding Non-Linear Analysis of RC Buildings”

IAStructE – IIIT Hyderabad student’s chapter of Earthquake Engineering Research Centre, conducted an online Hands-on Training on the topic “Understanding Non-Linear Analysis of RC Buildings” on 26th April 2023 for all the M. Tech and Ph.D. students, structural engineers, faculty, academic and research fraternity. Mr. Mihir Jain, Structural Dynamics Engineering, currently working with Midas, United States branch as Technical Lead.Mihir Jain completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Medi-Caps University, Madhya Pradesh, and M.Tech. from IIT Roorkee in Structural Dynamics.

He has worked extensively in the domain of ‘Risk Targeted Seismic Design’ and ‘Seismic Vulnerability of RC Frame Buildings’. He started the session with a brief introduction to earthquake resistance analysis and design clauses. He gave insights on the concepts and importance of nonlinear analysis and further seismic analysis methods to consider the non-linear behaviour of structures. The session was then succeeded with hands on session on ETABS software. He demonstrated the entire modelling of a G+9 Residential building in Zone 5. Further, Modal Analysis and Linear Analysis of the building was done. He explained the results of the analysis and demonstrated the Non-Linear Analysis: Pushover Analysis of the structure. He guided on how to interpret the results of analysis and further he highlighted the various interferences that can be deduced from the Non-linear Analysis results. Further, the discussion was concluded with a Q&A session with participants. A very insightful discussion was held at the end of the webinar with the participants.
